OUR PROGRAMS
We offer a comprehensive music program designed to nurture the musical talents of children and youth in Nunavut (currently in Pangnirtung and Qikiqtarjuaq).
Our program provides a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment for students to explore different musical genres and to develop their skills, with a focus on cultivating leadership skills through music.
We empower young individuals to take on roles of musical leadership within their communities and inspire others through the power of music.
The importance of music as a tool for personal growth and expression is emphasized. Becoming an able human being is a key component of all learning with a focus on well-being.
Students are encouraged to use music as a means of self-discovery and creative communication.

Button Accordion Workshops
The button accordion has long been a fixture instrument in Pangnirtung since the early to mid 1800, introduced by Scotitsh whalers along with the fiddle. Early instructors include Elder Simeonie Keenainak, Naiome Eejeetsiak and Greg Brown. We have partnered with the Iqaluit Music Society to provide current instruction.

Choir Workshops
Pangnirtung is know for it's singers and musicians and singing has long been a community focus. We have recently started to offer choir workshops at both schools and focus on songs of community and Nunavut artists and Nunavut (Aasiva, Riit, Joey Nowyuk, Late Etullu & Susa Aningmiuq, Late Meeka Araquq, Looee, The Jerry Cans)

Fiddle Workshops
Along with the button accordion, fiddle has been a long time community instrument of choice. Fiddle instruction began over 20 yars ago and continues to flourish with our yearly workshops and opportunties for youth to travel to music camps and exchanges.

Inuit Drumming & Throat Singing Workshops
Jr. High and High School students recently requested we offer Inuit drumming and throat singing instruction. As a result the new Pangnirtung Drummers and Singers group has been formed.

Agiagaqtiit-Fiddle Club
Our fiddle club was created over 20 years ago when a small group of students expressed interest in learning and fiddle club was born. Some of our first fiddle club members (Aasiva, Avery Keenainak and Alanna Qappik have gone on to music careers and/or music teaching) Now in our third decade of running the fiddle club we are excited to continue to grow and expand the club.

Pangnirtung Drummers & Singers
Our newly formed group provides support for youth to learn Inuit Drumming, throat singing, to learn traditional and contemporary songs in Inuktitut and English, and to develop performance knowledge, skills. and experience.
